April 30: "Showing What Is Hard To Tell": Women, HIV/AIDS and Storytelling Through Film With Dr Mehret Mandefro

Allofus.jpg

PLAN Institute is delighted to welcome Dr. Mehret Mandefro to Vancouver for a discussion of the film All of Us, a documentary that follows her her work with women in the South Bronx who are living with H.I.V./AIDS.  Dr. Mandefro’s journey as she worked and built relationships with women with H.I.V./AIDS  paints a portrait of the power of belonging and acceptance, and the lessons she learned as a young physician with a deep commitment to understanding and improving clinical and public health efforts. She will describe the national network of community-based organizations, institutions, and policy advocates who are using the film in education efforts, and foster a discussion about the power of the visual medium for building connections and creating change. Dr. Mandefro will also discuss the community outreach efforts of her advocacy organization TruthAIDS, which is building on the national network All of Us has brought together.
