Paid Research Opportunity for youth with disabilities/mental health challenges and/or caregivers

CanAssist at the University of Victoria Provincial Employment Strategy for Youth with Disabilities 

Are you between 15-29 years of age, self-identify with a disability, mental health challenge and/or experience with substance use and/or youth justice systems and are currently seeking or interesting in looking for work? 

We want your input as a youth to help us improve employment outcomes and promote inclusive workplaces for youth in British Columbia. Consider participating in research to help inform a Provincial Strategy for the Employment of Youth with Disabilities. 

Who can participate? 

We are looking for: 

  • Youth between 15-29 who self-identify with a disability, mental health challenge or history of addiction 
  • Youth from indigenous, LGBTQIA2s+, newcomer communities 
  • Youth with experience as a child in care, or subject to a Youth Agreement with provincial authorities 
  • Willingness to be audio and video-recorded (willingness to share story and have it documented) 

What’s involved? 

  • A virtual, structured group discussion with other caregivers (approx. 2 hours) 
  • An intake form (approx. 15 minutes) 
  • All inputs and contributions will be anonymized 
  • An exploration of key themes around gaps/barriers and resources for the employment of youth with disabilities/mental health 
  • challenges/history of substance use/experience with care and/or corrections 

Potential Benefits 

  • Participants will receive a pre-paid $50 Visa/Debit gift card for their time. Participants will also receive information around employment support 
  • Your contribution can help us report back to the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction
