Funders
We have the generous support of our funders, whose contributions provide the essential resources for our programs. Their commitment allows us to continue our work in supporting disability communities.
We have received funding from Employment and Social Development Canada for a number of projects over the years. Currently, we are in receipt of a four-year capacity-building National Operating Fund grant through the Social Development Partnerships Program (Disability) (SDPP-D), as well as a two-year grant to provide disability benefits navigation support.
Our partnership with the Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security enables us to provide more one-on-one support, resources, and outreach to help as many people as possible access the Disability Tax Credit and Canada Disability Benefit.
For many years, the May and Stanley Smith Charitable Trust has generously supported several of our educational initiatives, including our Disability Planning Helpline, workshops, support for our affiliate partners, and more.
The Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction has been a long-time supporter of our Access RDSP program and has recently provided us with funding to continue the work until 2028.
For many years, we have received a Community Gaming Grant from the Province of British Columbia. This grant supports our Disability Planning Helpline and workshops, as well as other programs that help the disability community.
TD Bank Group supports our financial literacy initiatives, including our webinars and Disability Planning Helpline.
Vancouver Foundation has supported a number of Plan Institute projects over the last 20 years, and we are grateful for their ongoing partnership.
Community Partners
We are proud to work alongside many community partners who share our goal of empowering people with disabilities to live good lives. Some examples of key partnerships are listed below. These relationships allow us to reach more people and unite our efforts in improving the lives of people with disabilities.
We work in partnership with the BC Aboriginal Network on Disability Society (BCANDS)/Indigenous Disability Canada (IDC) on the Access RDSP partnership and beyond.
We have worked closely with Disability Alliance BC (DABC) / Disability Alliance Canada (DAC) on the Access RDSP partnership for many years and continue to work closely together to support individuals across Canada to access the Disability Tax Credit and other benefits they are entitled to.

We have been involved with Disability Without Poverty since its inception, supporting events and initiatives to advance the movement to establish and continue to improve the Canada Disability Benefit.

Plan Institute emerged from the work of the Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) more than 20 years ago. While our organizations have grown in different directions over that time, we remain closely connected and continue to collaborate on initiatives such as our Personal Support Network Facilitation course.
Over the years, our projects with Prosper Canada have included developing the RDSP Calculator, the Future Planning Tool, and the Disability Benefits Compass. We also participate in Prosper’s national Financial Empowerment Network.
Networks and Coalitions
Plan Institute is an active member of a number of provincial and national networks, coalitions and other groups, working together to advance issues impacting the disability community.
