Plan Institute receives grant from TD Bank Group to expand access to financial literacy initiatives for people with disabilities
Burnaby, British Columbia
Plan Institute is pleased to announce it will receive $300,000 in funding between April 2026 and March 2029 from TD Bank Group (TD) to support our work in building knowledge and skills in financial literacy for people with disabilities.
The national non-profit organization aims to increase uptake of the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and other financial programs by equipping people with disabilities and their families with the resources to make informed decisions about their financial futures.
“There are immense barriers to financial security for many people living with a disability, and income support programs are often inaccessible and difficult to navigate. That’s why we are grateful for TD’s support,” said Stephanie Debisschop, Executive Director at Plan Institute. “This exciting increase in funding allows us to strengthen our programs promoting financial literacy, ultimately empowering the people we serve to access the programs they are entitled to and make informed decisions about their financial futures.”
Plan Institute’s Disability Planning Helpline has grown to support over 4,000 people each year, with a team of ten advisors who have lived experience and connections to the disability community. The national helpline provides free 1:1 support to address inquiries about many aspects of financial security, including estate planning and access to government programs.
“Plan Institute is helping break down barriers to financial literacy by expanding access to programs and support for people with disabilities. We’re proud to support this work, which makes it easier for individuals and families to find and use the tools available to them so they can feel more confident about their financial future,” says Robyn Small, Senior Manager, Philanthropy, Corporate Citizenship, TD Bank Group.
With the support from TD, Plan Institute’s financial literacy initiatives are projected to support 15,000 people and families impacted by a disability until March 2029. The funding will help sustain the tools offered by Plan Institute encompassing all programs, online resource hubs for the RDSP and Canada Disability Benefit, and recurring educational events, guiding people in securing their financial futures.
